In the first quarter of 2006, InfoComm International presented two CTS Prep classes in Hong Kong and India with excellent results.
The classes were taught by InfoComm’s Senior Staff Instructor Joe Bocchiaro III, Ph.D., CTS-D, and held in Hong Kong on 15-17 March 2006 and in Bangalore on 22-24 March 2006. “In total, there were 40 students with 37 taking the test, achieving an 89% passing rate,” said Bocchiaro.
The CTS Prep classes are dedicated to helping candidates prepare for the general Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) exam. The three-day classroom program provides an opportunity for new audiovisual professionals to work with an instructor and participate in exercises designed specifically to clarify key concepts provided in InfoComm's Essentials of the AV Industry online course.
In Hong Kong, the class was hosted by Crestron Asia. “The CTS class is great,” said Patrick Yeung, Manager, Application Engineering. Crestron Asia Ltd. “We hope it can bring a better AV standard in this industry in Asia.”
According to Andy Tan, CTS, InfoComm’s Asia Regional Manager, both classes were well received by the students who considered the course to be “relevant," "well presented and sequenced." “The amount of instruction was well-balanced, and all were pleased with the instructor,” said Mr. Tan.

Role of CTS in Asia
The Certified Technology Specialist designation is drawing more and more interest because AV industry professionals doing business in Asia view it as essential. These courses and InfoComm’s CTS qualification are increasingly accepted as necessary. As the demand for audiovisual services grows, suppliers and industry professionals everywhere are under pressure to prove themselves in this highly competitive market. Training and experience are critical factors when customers select a provider. There are now over 150 CTS's in Asia, and that number is growing fast. The next CTS Prep course will be in New Delhi and on 30 October-01 November 2006 and in Kuala Lumpur on 13-15 November 2006.
