Three-day course helps CTS exam candidates

The International Communications Industries Association, Inc.® (ICIA®) is pleased to announce its first course dedicated to helping candidates prepare for the general Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) exam. The three-day program provides an opportunity for new audiovisual professionals to work with an instructor and participate in exercises designed specifically to clarify key concepts provided in ICIA's Essentials of the AV Industry online course.

ICIA's certification program is renowned among AV professionals as the best in the industry. ICIA has sponsored certification for the AV industry for more than 30 years at both general and specialized levels; there are currently 2,600 holders of ICIA certifications worldwide, a 45 percent increase over 2003-2004.

The course covers:

  • The essentials of audio, including the audio path from sound waves and how we hear, to acoustics and what we hear, to the audio signal and electronic processing and finally to the listener and effective communication of a desired message.
  • The essentials of visual, including the visual path from the dynamics of light, to visual display components, to display technologies and the signals used and finally to the viewing environment and display system setup.
  • The essentials of systems, including types of systems and how they are created, lighting, conferencing, control, and computer systems, as well as the applications of AV networking.

The Certification Prep course is being offered March 20-22 and Aug. 14-16, 2005 at the InfoComm Academy state-of-the-art training facility in Fairfax, Va., a venue that has been specially designed to enable hands-on work with AV technology. ICIA members pay $795, with up to $445 in EduBucks tuition credits allowed. The non-member fee is $995.

InfoComm 05, being held June 4-10, 2005, in Las Vegas, will also offer the Certification Prep course as a three-day Institute for Professional Development (IPD) course prior to the exhibition opening.

About certification in the AV industry

The AV industry is experiencing phenomenal growth as demand for information communications technology expands in every field. With applications spanning videoconferencing, presentations and lectures, training, command and control, entertainment, distance learning, electronic retail signage and high-end home theater, customers are seeking qualified AV technicians, designers and installers.

Through ICIA's international AVolution Industry Awareness Campaign, the association has been promoting the value of hiring qualified, certified professionals and companies. The Certified Audiovisual Solutions Provider (CAVSP) program now has over 100 companies participating and proudly displaying their CAVSP logo on websites and marketing materials.

With almost 28,000 enrollments since 1997, ICIA's audiovisual education and certification programs are the AV industry's leading professional development resource. InfoComm Academy offers an extensive range of AV courses designed by experts and taught by renowned AV professionals from the entire spectrum of technical, sales, management and professional disciplines.

Courses are taken online, at the Fairfax, Va., headquarters, as well as around the world and at InfoComm each year. Last year's Show saw more than 6,000 course registrations. On any given day, there are over 2,900 students enrolled in ICIA® training and certification.
