InfoComm 2004

The AVolution Industry Awareness Campaign kicks off its second year at InfoComm 04 with exciting events, renewed outreach and sponsorships. The campaign is produced by the International Communications Industries Foundation, Inc.® (ICIF®) with assistance from the International Communications Industries Association® (ICIA®) to create awareness for the professional AV industry.

Calling AV technology users and buyers

The campaign is expanding in its second year to include active users of AV technology. End users or AV clients can show their AV pride and join more than 375 AV solutions providers (AVSPs) to help raise awareness for the AV industry.

AV clients who serve as the lead AV technology manager can sign up on behalf of their organization. To qualify, AV clients must sign a pledge to support 10 Standards of Excellence, must be a member of an AV-related professional organization and be involved in ongoing AV training.

"AV clients are among the best advocates for the AV industry," said Duffy Wilbert, Director of Strategic Initiatives for the International Communications Industries Foundation. "With the AV training and experience they've accumulated, they tend to embody the spirit of other committed AV professionals worldwide. Mobilizing these experts to help us reach potential AV buyers is great for the industry."

AVolution technology tours

AVolution is an educational campaign in many respects, so the campaign is lending its name to the popular technology tours at InfoComm 04. The lineup for the "AVolution Technology Tours" in Atlanta includes visits to four sites over two days, including tours of Georgia Tech on Thursday, June 10, and Emory University, the Georgia Dome and Philips Arena on Friday, June 11.

"The AVolution Technology Tours will give AV professionals a front-row seat to some of the most progressive AV applications in the field," added Wilbert. "Look for us to expand on the 'tour' concept with hands-on exhibits at other tradeshows later this year — all in an effort to raise awareness for the AV industry."

Marketing sessions for AVolved companies

More than 375 companies have joined AVolution. As advocates they are promoting the AV industry through local news stories, in company ads and through community outreach.

To explore these and other ways to promote the AV industry, there will be several marketing sessions at InfoComm 04 for AVolved companies and organizations. Marketing staff of these organizations should attend to learn how they can promote their business and maximize the efforts of the campaign at the same time.

Bill Sharer, CTS, a seasoned consultant to the AV industry, will join the AVolution staff to give marketers a refresher on the best marketing ideas and strategies to boost business. Attendees will receive marketing tools to re-energize their marketing program using the AVolution campaign.

For example, the campaign website ( features a new Photo Gallery, where companies can get more exposure for their winning projects. And the upcoming AVolution "road shows" will give companies additional opportunities to reach potential new clients.

The one-hour marketing sessions will be offered several times over the course of the Show: Wednesday, June 9, 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, June 11, 9 to 10 a.m. All the sessions will be held in Room B317.
